Wire Arrays: interesting for inertial fusion and laboratory astrophysics

In multiwire arrays, the parallel currents in the wires attract the exploding wire plasmas toward each other, and in cylindrical multiwire arrays, the whole array of exploding wire plasmas is attracted (imploded) toward the cylindrical axis, again giving a z-pinch.

Studies of radiation dominated wire arrays:
Some wire configurations will also enable fundamental studies of highly supersonic radiatively cooled plasma jets and their (collisional and collisionless) interactions with plasma targets, both with and without applied magnetic fields.

Diagnostic instruments available to Center researchers include visible light and x-ray streak cameras, visible/UV light and x-ray spectrographs, x-ray imaging using the X-pinch x-ray source, laser-based imaging methods, including interferometry and shadowgraphy, etc.
